Geriatrics is a medical specialty that deals with health issues related to elderly Canadians. The Montreal institute also has a geriatric research centre that is one of the most important in all of North America.

Sherbrooke has a much smaller but similar center. The health and social services center – University Institute of Geriatrics of Sherbrooke is associated with the University of Shebrooke.
